50 Project Challenge

After my inundation of stash from the PALS Fall Fling, I have decided to join in on the 50 Project Challenge. I'll actually be doing the 25 project version to start with, and decide if I want to push to 50 when the time comes. I've created a new blog to watch the progress on: http://jayderose50challenge.blogspot.com/ .

Massive Monday Madness

I'm several weeks behind on the Monday Madness, so I'm going to play catch-up today.

1. From amaranth:
Name three people you would pick (and why) if you could choose who to be stranded on a deserted island with.
1. Hubby - because I would miss him too much
2. Vin Diesel - for eye-candy and because the man games (or used to)
3. Bear Grylls from "Man vs. Wild" - because having someone like that would be just downright handy. PLUS, my hubby would love to learn what he knows.

2. From julie:
What is your favorite genre of film and what is your favorite movie from that genre?
Would British movies be a genre? One of my favorites is "Pride and Prejudice".

3. From tiffany:
Which country would you like to visit and why?
Ireland. I would love to see the land some of my ancestors came from.

4. From wil:
What are you driving these days? What's it's (their) good and bad points? Would you buy another one, and why or why not?
I drive a 1997 Ford Escort. It now has over 100K miles on it and I have had no problems with it. It even gets better gas mileage today, then the day I drove off the dealership lot. Only bad point I can think of would be a airbag container recall, that only cost me time to fix. I would buy another one, if my family would fit in it; definitely would buy one for my daughter after she gets her driver's license (well, I recommend that she buy one).

5. From cindy swanson:
"Lost," "24," or both?
I never got into "24", but I'm losing interest with "Lost", too.

6. From lady starlight:
You've been very good this year. What should Santa bring you for Christmas? (the sky is the limit)
I'll take a shopping spree at a bookstore, a shopping spree at a LNS, a new dining table with matching chairs, and a family portrait.

********************************************

This week's challenge comes from trista. Thank you, Trista!
Name 10 things you would do if you had more time.
  1. Consider homeschooling my children
  2. Completely declutter my house
  3. Decorate my house
  4. Renovate portions of my house
  5. Get kids up in the morning and dressed
  6. Feed kids in the morning (hubby currently does that and the one above)
  7. Learn a new hobby
  8. Read every book in the library (well, all the ones I think were good)
  9. Take cross stitch classes
  10. Start my own business

************************************************************

1. From: cassie:Dramas or comedies?

Laughter is the best medicine: Comedies!

2. From: nutmegnine:Your neighbor has frequent noisy parties on nights before you need to get up early. Do you confront him directly, call the police, call your landlord, join in the debauchery, or seethe quietly and do nothing?

I need to get up early? Confront, then call police if noise doesn't lower within a reasonable amount of time.

3. From sherle:Are you more comfortable in big crowds or small groups?

Big crowds are easy to hid and observe others in, but small groups can be really fun!

4. From zeno:Do you prefer Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox?

I couldn't say I have a preference, because I've never used Firefox.

5. From briar:They say you learn something new every day. What new thing did you learn today?

My son will sit on the couch hugging the cereal box, if he thinks there is a prize in it that no one else has claimed yet.

*****************************************************

1. From bev:Small town or big city?

I've lived in both, seen the ups and downs of both, and love both. So I need a house in the big city and a ranch or farm in a small town.

2. From turtlemoonwave:Do you have a favorite childhood memory, and if so, would you share it?

No favorite memory.

3. From cat:How do you calm down when something has really upset and/or angered you? Do you swallow it? Call a friend and rant? Go in the bathroom and cry? Punch a wall? Walk around muttering to yourself, complete with scary hand gestures?

Depending on the situation I'm in and exactly how mad I am, determine my actions. For the most part, I wait 24 hours before I say anything about it, if I'm still mad then, I'll confront the person who pissed me of or rant to hubby about it. For case that someone gets me truly angry, the rule is, if I'm yelling, you are safe; if I'm calm, it's time for you to run because I'm plotting on where to put the body.

4. From dna princess:What attracts you to memes?'

Which definition are we using?

5. From mads:How reliant are you on computers to get through your day?

During a work day: 100%

During the weekend: 10% or less

6. From tizzie:In a crisis, are you calm or do you panic?

Calm. I wait until after the crisis to panic; much to the amusement of family and friends.

Myrtle Beach Day 6 / Last day of Fall Fling

We were up late last night. I slept until noon! This evening’s activities were the gift exchange (stealing was allowed again) and the Stitcher’s Showcase.

I won 3rd place in the Unfinished/Unframed category for my “At Play with Friends”! This was my prize!
Image hosted by Webshots.com

The evening ended with door prizes and pictures. I traded my door prize (it was some hand dyed fabric that Amy really wanted) for another scissors fob that Lisa (not me) made. I love her fobs!

I was up until 1 or 2 in the morning; lots of gabbing! Tomorrow everyone, except me, will be heading home. My flight is Monday morning.

This has been an absolute blast for me and I WILL be coming back next year, for their 10th anniversary. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Myrtle Beach Day 5 / Fling Day 3

Mary of M-Designs taught two classes today. The first was a Do It Yourself Family Sampler. It was so much fun customizing and designing a sampler for me. I’m almost done with the designing, and will definitely be adding this to my rotation. Oh yes, and it came with hand dyed fabric and Vicki Clayton silk. The first time I’ll get to work with silks!!!

The second class was for ornaments; hand dyed fabric and JAR Designs floss. Love it! And she included the forms and everything else (except the glue) to finish the ornaments. These, too, have been added to my rotation.

The ornament exchange, grab bag and creative stitch contest is tonight. This is what I brought.

I’m figuring it’s not as fancy as everyone else’s, but this is my first year and I had no idea what to do.

Oops! I almost forgot to share my purchase at Counted Stitches. They were out of the fiber grab bags, so I got a chart grab bag instead.

What fun the grab bag stealing was! I didn’t get to do any stealing but it sure was fun watching. I walked away with the bag from Lisa (not me).

Myrtle Beach Day 4 / Fling Day 2

Shopping, shopping, shopping!

The ladies have corrupted me with Italian charms. See what they made me buy!
Image hosted by Webshots.com

Ok. It didn’t take a whole lot of arm twisting. I also got another four in a charm exchange after dinner.

But the corruption doesn’t stop with me! I’ve started a bracelet for my daughter too.

Myrtle Beach Day 3 / Fling Day 1

Busy day today. Registration officially began. Check out this registration bag!
Image hosted by Webshots.com
And the piece de resistance!
Image hosted by Webshots.com

Sweet, huh?

A lot of running around today. Mostly grocery store and last minute items forgotten for the gift exchange (like the wrapping paper).

The group has corrupted me by introducing me to Italian charm bracelets. I’m hoping my daughter is just as corruptible!

The day ended with candy making class. Peppermint patties, molded chocolate, peanut butter cups, etc.
Image hosted by Webshots.com Image hosted by Webshots.com
Unfortunately, I had to bow out early. I am worn out! Maybe I shouldn’t have gone for a workout this morning. After a full night’s sleep, I’ll be raring to go for tomorrow. Broadway and the mall!!

Myrtle Beach Day 2

A weatherman just call yesterday’s rain in Texas “a low system merging with juicy tropical air”. Juicy?!?

ROFLMAO

It looks like Texas autumn weather reached SC overnight, but it’s just overcast today with the occasional sprinkle. I had a good nights sleep, and am a little sore from the plane ride. It’s a good thing my husband was not with me last night. After being cramped up in a chair half the day, I sprawled across the bed last night. I’m getting really excited about meeting everyone. I hope to track them down this afternoon.

Weather channel is reporting a lot of plane delays today. I’m glad I got tickets for yesterday.

Met Amy of Down Sunshine Lane and several other women. Great bunch of ladies! Helped setup the stash room. Here is what I have gotten so far:

I saw a couple other things that I might like, but I’ll wait until later in the week when more people have added to it.

Myrtle Beach Day 1

WARNING: Rant ensued until blood sugar levels rose.

I’m not impressed. After sitting on the tarmac for an hour in Houston, then having to run to make my connecting flight, which was also late (yeah, just enough time to go to the restroom), I arrive at the hotel around 3 pm without having any food since 6 AM. I then spend then next hour trying to get in my room. The keys don’t work. Maintenance is called 3 times before they show up 1 hour later. During this time, I decide to go ahead and find a restaurant close by to grab some food…NONE ARE OPEN! And the corner store? Nope, not that either! A lady at the bus stop pointed me to the hotel across the street that had an open mini-mart. Great, lots of walking, running and lugging of suitcases without food. So I got back to my hotel, waited another 15 minutes (after call #3). Not a good first impression and I certainly hope the rest of the week does not go like this.
It probably won’t; I’m just all sorts of pissy because I haven’t eaten all day.

Yeah! Pizza rolls are done!

***********************************************

Ahhhhh….
Got a meal in me, unpacked, and taken a shower (the humidity makes me feel like home). I’m definitely more human.

After a good night’s sleep tonight, I’ll let tomorrow be my first impression.

Now to do some stitching and figure out the TV stations…please let me find “Heros” tonight.

A small finish before I leave on vacation

I finished my portion of Janice's piece in the Bakers Dozen RR. 'T' chose "October Curls"; I think mainly because he is ready for Halloween.

Image hosted by Webshots.com

Now to put it in a safe place until it is time to mail it, in a month. And set a reminder on my Palm....can't go and forget about it!

Thank you everyone for your kind words and keeping me and my famil in your thoughts during this past week.

A loss of family

I have not written for several days now, the main one being my mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago and the doctors gave her 6 months to live. She is stubborn and she lived a year beyond what the doctors said she would. For the last several months, she had a viral infection that caused her lungs to fill with fluid. Friday she checked herself into a hospital. The doctors were trying to drain the fluid and make her as comfortable as possible, but she took a turn for the worse Saturday night. She died Sunday afternoon, joining our ancestors, and no longer suffers.

Between this and getting things ready at work for next week, I won't be posting anymore this week. Expect better tiding next week as I blog about my week in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Pictures Pictures Pictures

I finally got around to cleaning out my tote, so here is the picture of "Snowcones" by Carla Acosta from Michaels.com. It is with DMC floss on 14c White Aida. It took approx. 70 hours to complete.
Image hosted by Webshots.com

I have also finished stitching my nametag for the PALS Fall Fling. I adapted the patterns from "Prayer Pocket" by Yvonne Reitsma and lettering from "Good Freinds Nametag" by Yvonne Reitsma and Thea Dueck, both patterns available from The Victoria Sampler. It was done on 28c Coffe Jobelan, with the recommended DMC threads. I did the lettering with DMC Rayon 30798, and used MH 40123for the center of the blue flowers. 7 hours to complete.

Thank you everyone who help pick the fabric for this!

Oh carp, almost forgot Monday Madness!

1. From amanda f: What do you do when somebody complements you?
a. Smile and say Thanks
b. Ignore it and change the subject
c. Complement them back
d. Turn red in embarrasment at the attention and look around to see other people's reaction
e. Take it as your due!
A. I usually smaile and thank the complimentor. If they are complimenting me on something that was a gift from someone else, or done by someone else, I'll give credit where it's due. (I won't someone think my hairstyle is my idea, because most of the time I've sat down in the chair and said, "I need a change. I don't care what you do.")

2. From shelly: What color are your eyes?
Chameleon eyes, like grandma. My eye change colors according to my mood; shades of green and blue. Hubby dances around the house when my eyes are "that shade of green".

3. From kia: What do you like most about yourself?
My ability to accept changes and try new things.

4. From julie: How do you spend Christmas?
We start on the 21/22 in my house, Chrstmas Eve with hubby's father's family, Christmas day with my siblings and mom's hubby's family, and in between any other family member who decides to make a showing that year.
My kids think the Christmas is a week long. Makes it easier on us, as they don't get bad sensory overload as it get given to them a little at a time.

5. From wide imagination: When do you normally blog? Day or night?
I usually blog at some point during the day. A cross of whenever I can get some time for myself, and having something to say.

6. From rach: What song can you relate to your personal life? Share a line or two of that song.
I can relate pretty much any song to my life, LOL. How about I go with one I'm listening to at the moment, "Love Don't Lie" by Def Leppard from X.
"Love don't lie, it lifts you up,
It takes you higher, when high ain't enough.
Love don't lie, its stronger than steel,
It's got the heart and emotion to heal.
It's not as easy as it seems,
When you can't even sleep in your dreams.
Love don't lie, that is the truth,
Look me straight in the eye for the proof
That love don't lie."

7. From sherle: What is your favorite color for a sleeping environment?
Earthy colors: dark greens and blues, browns

Poll Results and Another Finish (or 2)

Thank you everyone who helped me pick the fabric for a name tag. The two most popular choises were Lavendar Bliss and Coffee, with Coffee having twice as many votes. So I start the name tag last night and am about 50% completes on it. I should have done in the next couple of days.

Also, although I don't have a picture up yet, I completed "Snowcones". I'll get that picture up tonight. I need to get it out of the bag I carry with me everywhere. I am also almost done with my choice for a tree ornament. However, I'm waiting to finish the beads on the nametag, before I decide which beads to use on the ornament. I don't know if I have enough in my stash or if I'll have to drive the distance to the LNS. I already know that the craft stores near me do not have it.

***************************************
2 weeks until I'm on a plane to Myrtle Beach.
